If you haven’t heard of Polyvore, you’re definitely missing out! Polyvore is a super cool website where you can assemble sets of fashion or lifestyle items and post them. I love this website because it’s creative and fun, and you can use items that are currently sold in stores in your sets. I use Polyvore for styling purposes. I love creating outfits, accessorizing them, and adding all kinds of cool effects. You can follow other people and you can like and comment on other people’s sets! Also, you can join a bunch of different groups that have similar interests so that you can see sets that would be of interest to you. For example, there are modern interior design groups, high fashion groups, and make up groups.

I would love it if all of you would follow me on Polyvore! I’d love to follow all of you too! My account name is onlineshopaholic!

And if you don’t have a Polyvore account, make one here! http://www.polyvore.com/

Teenage Politico

Summer is the perfect time to try something new, pursue a new activity, and boost your resume. In addition to taking precollege classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology, I’m interning for a local politician in his current re-election campaign. I never thought that I’d have an interest in politics, but when this opportunity was at my doorstep I took it! So far, it’s been an amazing experience. In the few weeks that I have been interning Legislator Jim Maisano, I’ve learned so much about politics, strategy, and the voting process.

Last week, we had a fun beach-themed fundraiser for Jim at a waterfront restaurant! It was anything but stuffy. The interns, me and four other students, worked at the event signing in guests, taking donations, and shmoozing the important guests. We gave all the guests colorful Hawaiian lays, ‘Re-elect Jim’ stickers, and even Jim Maisano nail files! Jim really cares about the people of the city and he takes his job seriously. He loves talking and getting to know the people in his district first hand. Needless to say it was a fun and productive night.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the stuff we’re going to do!!

Omaha Photo Diary: Part 2

IMG_0151IMG_0154IMG_0160IMG_0161IMG_0182IMG_0183IMG_0171IMG_0247IMG_0283IMG_0269IMG_0310IMG_0305IMG_0361IMG_0339IMG_0407

The second portion of my vacation was just as good, if not better, than the first portion. There’s no sight seeing or tourism in Nebraska, so everything we did was tons of fun and so unique! One of the things I really enjoyed doing was walking on the pedestrian bridge, which is a mile long bridge only for pedestrians over a river in downtown Omaha. The coolest part about the bridge is that the bridge starts in Nebraska and ends in Iowa!

The Old Village in Omaha, where my cousins and I strolled around one afternoon, is an area spanning just a few blocks that oozes character and southern-like charm. Cobblestone streets, elaborate hanging flower baskets, and one-of-a-kinds shops all over! Also, it has THE best candy shop! :)

I always knew that my Uncle Andy was an artist but I’ve questioned it nor have I actually seen any of his work. My family and I took a trip to the art gallery which was showcasing my uncle’s artwork for the season. The display included around 13 pieces, all inspired by nature, of a variety of sizes. Although I don’t know much about creating paintings, I do know that he layers and layers paint on canvas and scrapes different sections to create depth and interest!

I did a bunch of other fun things during the week like go to a bonfire with all my family members, tanned the day away with my cousins at the pool, ride a mechanical bull at an Independence Day carnival, and painted my own picture frame at a local pottery store!!

For the Fourth of July, I went to my cousins cabin on a lake where we fished and lounged the day away in the sun! Sometimes you just need a relaxing day to really enjoy yourself! Of course, then we watched a fantastic fireworks display!

The last day was bittersweet and the drive home was anything but quick, but we made it back to New York safe and sound. We will definitely be back to Nebraska next year!

Happy Independence Day!!

Go red, white and blue!
Happy Independence Day! Today isn’t just about wearing a perfectly patriotic outfit or making honey BBQ ribs to bring to your neighborhood get together; it’s about honoring our country and the people who made it what it is today. Insurmountable groups of people sacrificed all they could for the benefit of the nation and to give us, the Americans of today, the life we live at this very minute. Count your blessings, watch a spectacular fireworks display, and have a wonderful Fourth of July!!

A Lot of the Same in Nebraska

Nebraska and New York are so extremely different that it’s both refreshing and unsettling.

Omaha is an urban city in Nebraska, but it is build horizontally and not vertically. It’s rare to see a building more than four or five stories tall here. Also, everybody’s back yard is enormous. There is so much land and so many grassy fields; it’s beautiful! In New York, every square foot of land is build upon or covered with cement. There are so many skyscrapers that only a sliver of sky can be seen and my backyard is barely big enough to fit a trampoline. In Nebraska, the air feels cleaner and more refreshing, and life seems less hectic.

The unsettling part of Nebraska is its homogeneousness. All of the houses have similar structures, driveway placements, and siding colors (taupe, sand, or navy). The majority of the people shop at the same stores, and, therefore, wear all of the same things (blue denim bermuda shorts and converse sneakers). Everybody has blonde hair, sunkissed skin, light eyes, and a dog.

I know that it may be comfortable to live in a place where nothing is out of the ordinary or surprising, but to me it’s booooring. I miss walking down the street and seeing an unlikely couple taking a stroll, or a purple tudor house, or even an old man dressed like a viking. There may be a safety in sameness but there is an excitement in diversity that, to me, is much more valuable than almost anything.

Last Saturday morning my parents, my sister, and I loaded our many pieces of luggage into our trusty minivan in preparation for our lengthy road trip to Nebraska. Our relatives live in Omaha, so almost every year we get in the Honda minivan and drive through the countryside to visit them. The trip takes about 20 hours each way, but my sister and I make the drive more fun: we watch movies, play games (remember I spy?), and gaze out the window at the mesmerizing rolling hills.

The sights really are beautiful; the country looks nothing like urban New York, or even NY suburbia. Farms with bright green crops and barrels of hay and roaming livestock spread for what seems like forever on both sides of Interstate 80. Every once and a while we would pass a small town or truck stop, but for the most part, the land seems virtually untouched, which is not a common sight nowadays.

We stopped for the night on Saturday in South Bend, Indiana in your regular Holiday Inn. The next morning, right before we resumed our journey, we took a quick drive through the Notre Dame campus. (I’m currently looking at colleges to attend because I am a rising senior, AH!) I haven”t toured a campus school that was as large as Notre Dame and it was beyond beautiful. I would love to go to school there.

We finally arrived at my grandma’s house in Omaha Sunday night. We were greeted my my grandparents, my aunt and uncle, and my cousins. It really feels like a home away from home. For this week, I’ll be blogging, tweeting, emailing, etc. from right here at my grandma’s kitchen table.

No Longer MIA

Hi lovelies!

I’m so so sorry I haven’t posted in a while.

With school, AP testing, the SAT, and so many other things, I just couldn’t find the time to blog! *gasp*  The good thing is that I only have one, yes only one, day of school left and only one regents exam to take. Isn’t that insanity? I only have one day left being a junior in high school.

This summer I have a lot on my plate! I’m visiting my relatives in Nebraska, I’m taking a three week course at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City for fashion merchandising (words cannot express my excitement for it!), and I also might have an internship at a marketing firm (I’m crossing my fingers!!).

Of course, I’ll be blogging every minute of my summer! I also hope to do a lot of volunteering, attend dance classes at Broadway Dance Center, and spend some down time at the beach.

I hope all of you have had a great spring!

xoxo

Demi Appreciation Post

If there’s anything you should know about me, you should know that Demi Lovato is my role model. I’ve been a Demi fan since the beginning of her acting career on Disney Channel when she was in a mini series called As the Bell Rings. I’ve seen her live in concert many times and her voice live is beyond flawless and her style is perfection! Yes, she’s had a few troubled years, but the fact that she asked for help makes her a really admirable person.

Here’s some of my favorite pictures of Demi!!

One thing Demi has done recently that was very good-hearted of her is that on Christmas, she sang and recorded her singing Alabama’s “Angels Among Us” and dedicated it to the Sandy Hook victims and families.

2012: My Year in Pictures

We always complain about how long the week is or how horrible your day has been, always remarking “Oh my gawd, can you believe it’s only Wednesday?” or “Ugh, worst Monday ever.” But looking back on my year, I forget all the long sleepless nights I spent studying for a Global History test and the week that me and my best friend didn’t talk because of a stupid fight, and I only remember the best times I had.

I definitely grew as a person this year, stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things! I also learned so much from school, from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and from my experiences. I’ve still got a long way to go and much more time to figure myself out but I know I have come one step closer to coming into my own.

I put together a ton of photos from some of the great times I had this year! I hope you had as good of a year as I did.

ENJOY xoxo

(Warning: Epic Post)

In January, I had my Sweeet 16 party. This fairytale is definitely one I’ll never forget!

As odd as it is for a teenager, I absolutely love going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. All of the culture and art fascinates me. I could spend the whole day there wandering around.

This spring break was the best one I’ve had my whole life. My family and I went to California and spent half our vacation in Los Angeles and the other half in San Diego. I’m dying to take another vacay there.

My parents are very supportive of me in everything I do even if they don’t 100% love what I’m doing, so in my quest to figure out who I am I dyed part of my hair hot pink! It was fun while it lasted…

I have the best friends ever. One of my best friends took me to the Hamptons for a weekend trip early in the summer!

As you may or may not know, I am a huge Demi Lovato fan. She is just perfect in every way so me and some of my friends went to a Demi concert together in June!
